Biography

I am a consultant Rheumatologist based at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. I have over 25 years of experience working both in research and clinically in the field of musculoskeletal conditions and in particular psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, soft tissue disorders, ethnic minority musculoskeletal health and tropical arthropathies.

I am the Clinical Director for Research and Development at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow as well as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. I am an Associate Director of Teaching for the University of Sheffield Medical School and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators.

I am an External Assessor for Postgraduate Degrees of the University of Bradford and a Regional Advisor for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. I am a Patient and Public Involvement Adviser as well as a diversity Adviser to the Department of Health. I am an NIHR INVOLVE Associate and the Strategic Lead for Patient and Public Involvement for the Yorkshire and Humber CLAHRC. I sit on the board of the Devices for Dignity Health Technology Cooperative.

I have over 175 book chapters and peer reviewed publications. I am an Associate Editor for the Clinical Rheumatology journal and I sit on the editorial boards of several other journals. I am co-editor of the ABC of Rheumatology Textbook.

My research income has included research grants obtained from the United Kingdom National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), from various industry sources as well as from research charities such as Arthritis Research UK. I was a previous Arthritis Research UK Clinical Research Fellow at Cambridge and both previously and currently, I am a Chief Investigator or Principal Investigator for several research studies. I am also a Clinical Professor of Medicine for St Matthews Medical School in Florida, USA.
