Biography

I am a PhD student exploring a range of feasibility metrics concerning the impact of university counselling services on clinical and academic outcomes. With a focus on student mental health, my research aims to address various challenges of university counselling services by exploring the role of technology in increasing the capacity of therapists without diluting the quality of therapy. My research includes a feasibility trial exploring whether supplementing face-to-face counselling with guided use of a well-being app is an acceptable, feasible and potentially helpful treatment option for university students experiencing anxiety or depression.

My academic background is within psychology, particularly lifestyle factors contributing to cognitive health in young adults. I completed a BSc(Hons) in Psychology and an MRes in Brain Imaging and Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Birmingham. I also completed a summer biomedical scholarship with the Wellcome Trust investigating quality of life.

Before I joined the University of Sheffield, I worked as a clinical trial co-ordinator at Birmingham University exploring child health and maternity services in the NHS. At Birmingham University I also worked as a research associate and jointly led an adolescent cohort study within schools across the West Midlands to explore the impact of sleep and modern technology use on academic performance, mental health and BMI.
