Biography

Amanda comes from an interdisciplinary background. After taking a first degree in Psychology, she held a variety of research positions at University of Exeter, MRC Cognitive Development Unit, and Yale and then Stanford, USA. She completed her PhD in psycholinguistics in 1989 at the University of Essex.

Since then she has conducted research in neural computing at University of Exeter, before moving to the University of Sheffield where she is now a Senior Lecturer (equivalent to US Associate Professor) in the Department of Computer Science. Her current research interests include the ethics of robot care, human-robot interaction, and swarm robotics.

Amanda has over 90 publications. She was a founding member of the scientific committee for an international series of workshops on multiple classifier systems and is an associate editor of the journal Connection Science, and a member of IET.
